I want to discuss the simple word preparation-the action or process of making something ready for use or
service or of getting ready for some occasion, test, or duty. This word is very important when it comes to
ministry. I must have my heart ready and in the right humble attitude of service in order to be effective in what
God has for me to do. This also means that I must be prepared with my talent, may it be singing, playing an
instrument, preaching, teaching or whatever the particular talent God has graciously given. Let’s face it, is
someone going to get anything out of what God may have me or you say or sing if we are not able to present the
message to the best of our ability. When I say this I don’t mean that we practice and study to show ourselves to
the world for any earthly gain but to show ourselves approved to the Almighty from whom we are merely vessels
in which to spread his word, his mercy, his grace and his love. We must hold ourselves accountable that we as
Christian servants in every ministry must strive for holiness, not only on Sunday, but through our daily lives that
we may reflect Christ to the world. It doesn’t stop there, we must prepare our hearts and our minds before we
enter any type of worship service whether we are involved in the ministry or members of the congregation, that
we come ready and willing to praise and receive a blessing from God. So many times I go to church with a
problem asking God for the answer. I sit there with my mind in a haze thinking of the week ahead or, for me
anyway, trying to come up with a resolution to my problem on my own. By doing this I could be missing the
answer God has for me in that service because I wasn’t prepared to receive it. We need to quit treating our
ministries and our attendance at church as a JOB. It is the farthest thing from that, it is a privilege to minister or
gather together one with another and lift up the name above all names, Jesus Christ, who has saved us from hell.
We must be prepared and ready to receive instruction or any answers for our lives from the teaching, to the
singing, to the preaching. It’s time we come out of our mundane Christian lives of being an ember of mediocrity
and unwillingness, to being a flame that is ready and prepared to set fires when the spirit moves and God gives
direction. If we as Christians were always prepared and obedient to God’s commands, can you imagine how
many strongholds we could tear down? Satan would be shaking in his boots! There I said it. Ahh, I feel a little
better now. I know God has laid this on my heart for my own life and hopefully yours too.
May God bless you ,
Jimmy
